Cheddar, Wells, Glastonbury and West Somerset Rail

Day 1:

Travel to Somerset & Hotel Check-In - Your journey begins with pick-ups from your local area and a scenic coach ride into the heart of Somerset. Upon arrival at the Holiday Inn Taunton, you will have time to settle into your room, explore the hotel's amenities, or take a short walk in the surrounding countryside. The evening is completed with a relaxing dinner at the hotel, allowing you to unwind and prepare for the exciting days ahead.

Day 2:

West Somerset Railway & Minehead - Today, enjoy a nostalgic steam train ride along the West Somerset Railway. The 23-mile journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead winds through the picturesque Quantock Hills, past charming villages, and offers spectacular views across the Bristol Channel. Upon arrival in Minehead, you will have free time to explore the traditional seaside town. Take a stroll along the promenade, enjoy the long, flat sandy beach, or follow the footpath past thatched cottages to St Michael's Church, a 15th-century treasure offering stunning views over the town. Later in the afternoon, return to your hotel to relax before dinner.

Day 3:

Glastonbury Abbey, Wells Cathedral & Cheddar Gorge - Begin the day in the mystical town of Glastonbury, often regarded as the cradle of Christianity in England. Explore Glastonbury Abbey, steeped in history and legend as the reputed burial place of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. From there, travel to the historic city of Wells, where a guided tour introduces you to the magnificent Gothic-style cathedral, the 12th-century Bishop's Palace, and the medieval streets of Vicars' Close. On the return journey, pass through the dramatic Cheddar Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise up to 500 feet, providing breathtaking scenery and perfect opportunities for photographs.

Day 4:

Exmoor National Park & Dunster - Immerse yourself in the wild beauty of Exmoor National Park, with its rolling hills, open moorland, and tranquil landscapes. Keep an eye out for the native wildlife, including red deer and the iconic Exmoor ponies. In the afternoon, visit the medieval village of Dunster, a picture-perfect location with its ancient castle, historic yarn market, and charming packhorse bridge. Day 5:

Return Home - After breakfast, it is time to check out and begin your journey home. Travel through Somerset's scenic countryside, reflecting on the highlights of your trip-from steam train adventures and historic abbeys to dramatic gorges and charming villages. You will arrive back at your local drop-off points by late afternoon, taking with you wonderful memories of Somerset's heritage, landscapes, and charm.
