Dudley Canal Cruise and Black Country Living Museum includes Lunch
Begin with a 45 minute underground canal boat trip within Dudley’s limestone caverns and marvel at the impressive limestone caverns carved by man to gain access to the raw materials that changed our world forever, during the Industrial Revolution.
Enjoy a stunning video show in Little Tess Cavern explaining how the limestone was originally formed. Learn how the fossilised remains of small creatures and plants – now clearly visible in Castle Mill’s coral reef – once lay on the sea bed.
See the amazing lifelike reconstructions in Hurst Cavern – with mannequins depicting how miners worked in the tunnels during the 18th century. Delight in the incredible music and light show in the Singing Cavern. You will also discover the traditional art of ‘legging’ in the tunnels.
Following your canal cruise make your way over to the Black Country Living Museum for lunch.
Enjoy a delicious lunch, with tea or coffee by the canal, before entering The Black Country Living Museum, famous for once being the centre of industry. Experience over fifty authentic shops, houses and workshops which have been carefully reconstructed to preserve the character. Highlights of the Musuem include meeting the costumed characters who will explain what it was like to live and work in one of the world’s most heavily industrialised landscapes. You also have the opportunity to see various live demonstrations – see sparks fly as the chain maker forges a link, witness the glow of the forges, smell the steam of the engines and hear the banging of hot metal. ! As well as all of these experiences, you can view the transport collection, meet the resident animals, enjoy a refreshment in the pub and have a ride on the fun fair.
