History

History of Harrods Coaches.

D & H Harrods (Coaches) was started by Mr Herman Harrod in 1927. (pictured centre)

It provided a variety of services including trips to darts and dominoes matches, church outings, group outings to London - and was still a one-vehicle business when he died in 1965.

Herman's wife, Dolly, (pictured left) then learned to drive and became one of only half a dozen lady coach drivers in Norfolk at the time. As she built up the business, the number of coaches gradually increased to eight, before Dolly retired in the 1990's.

As the years went on, Harrod's coaches were always kept up to date as these images show the many styles of buses as the decades pass by.

Every Tuesday and Friday, Harrods still operates the same service from Wormegay to Lynn (stopping at Blackborough End, Middleton, Fair Green, North Runcton and West Winch) that was started by Herman Harrod, back in 1927.

Today, the business is run by Herman's son Derek who, along with his wife Anne as company secretary and their son Paul as operations manager, now run 12 coaches.

In the near future, the services to Wisbech Grammar School from the West Norfolk area, which already include Hunstanton, Dersingham and many of the villages around Lynn, are being expanded to include East Winch and the Walpoles.
